Gardner Town Board launches pre-emptive strike against CAFOs

The Gardner Town Board this month adopted a 16-page ordinance regulating "mega-farms" in advance of any announced plans for a large animal farm operation in the community.

The new law is a reaction to large dairy farms now operating in Kewaunee County and concern such "concentrated animal feeding operations" could be started in Gardner.

Town attorney Randy Nesbitt said one farm in the Luxemburg-Casco area has announced plans for a nearly 10,000 animal operation. ...
