A bit of optimism surrounds the Gibraltar High School softball team in 2013.

The Vikings struggled last year, ending the season with a 3-11 record in the Packerland Conference, 4-14 overall, and a first-round postseason loss to Brillion.

But mixed in there were a win over Kewaunee and two close losses to Sturgeon Bay, both mid-pack teams in the conference. And, with just two players lost to graduation from last year's squad, the Vikings are counting on a blend of experience and rising young talent to improve in 2013. ...
