The Central Wisconsin Airport traffic control tower will be one of 149 towers to close April 7 at small airports across the country.

The tower will close as a result of $85 billion in federal budget cuts that began March 1, leaving the Federal Aviation Administration to shave off $637 million from its budget for the rest of the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

CWA is confident the closure won't impact travel schedules or safety of daily operations, director for airport operations and maintenance Jim Olson said Friday. Twenty-two flights depart and arrive at CWA daily and 350,000 passengers use ...
