When Maddie Krolow found out her classroom art project would be featured at a community gallery, she was shocked.

The brightly colored Indonesian batik cloth turned out the way Maddie had envisioned, but she never thought it would be put on display for others to see.

"I was really excited. I thought, 'Wow, my artwork is good enough to be in a museum,'" said Maddie, a D.C. Everest sixth-grade student. ...
