City plans to spend largest budget surplus in years

City of Wausau departments are requesting nearly $221,000 left over from the 2012 budget to buy new equipment such as radio scanners, guns or iPads or to complete ongoing projects that the city has contracted with private companies.

The Wausau City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday will vote on whether the city should approve the requests or put that money into a contingency fund, which the city essentially uses as a "rainy day" savings account.
