Former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point All-American Nick Bennett remembers with pride the days he went on the recruiting trail with a shoestring $16,000 budget trying to sell high school players on the Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball program.

It seemed like every time the ex-Eagles assistant coach reached potential recruits on the phone and spoke with them at their games, he often was asked if he was from a junior college or NAIA program.
