Stevens Point City Council members say they're open to the idea of consolidating the city's and county's dispatch centers under the sheriff's office, but concerns remain about oversight.

The council will ultimately decide whether the city goes ahead with combining the two centers, a move that both city and county officials agree likely will save money and lead to better staffing.

City leaders met in closed session with the city's Police and Fire Commission on Monday to discuss the county's offer, which includes a one-time levy transfer of $552,000 from the city to the county. That means the ...
