Wisconsin Rapids armory funding included in state budget proposal

After a nearly two-year delay, a project to build a new Wisconsin Rapids armory could move forward, thanks to new funding included in Gov. Scott Walker's 2013-15 capital projects budget proposal.

The $62.5 million project would include $2.1 million in state-supported bonding and $60.4 million in federal money, according to the proposal, which the State Building Commission approved Thursday. The project previously was included in the 2011-13 capital budget, but later dropped because federal lawmakers did not allocate the necessary funds, said state Rep. Scott Krug, R-Rome.
