Last Friday afternoon, after a half-day of school and at the very beginning of spring break, Chris Rock was in the chemistry lab at Wausau West High School.

Rock, 18, a senior with a 4.0 grade point average, wasn't alone. He and his lab partners and friends, Juan Pintor and Sam Zastrow, also seniors, were doing an experiment that looks at freezing points, delving into the science behind why salt helps rid winter roads of ice.
