Boy suffers first-, second-degree burns in fire

A 16-year-old boy suffered first- and second-degree burns on his hands while trying to put out a bedroom fire Tuesday morning in Merrill, authorities said.

The fire was reported just before 10:30 a.m. at 507 N. Ohio St., according to a Merrill Fire Department news release issued Tuesday. The fire, which was contained to an upstairs bedroom, was quickly extinguished with a small amount of water, and minimal smoke and water damage was reported, Capt. Scott Krause said.
