SHERWOOD — High Cliff Golf Course, which had been foreclosed in December, was purchased by a local investment group and renamed High Cliff Public Golf Course.
“We want to see this course placed back to the prominence it once held,” said investor and group spokesperson Dan Rippl, who indicated that the group plans to make improvements to the course.
The 18-hole course is adjacent to High Cliff State Park and operated last summer while Community First Credit Union foreclosed on its owner, High Cliff Golf Course Inc. and Krishna P. Vemuri.
Details of the purchase were not disclosed.
The transaction does not include the High Cliff Restaurant on the golf course’s grounds. The restaurant is separately owned by Chuck and Jana Schuster and minor partner Larry Trucco.
Besides Rippl, the investment group includes Troy Baumgart, Adam Clark, Corey Feller, Bill Hastie, Corey Kluge, Jeff Luniak, Ryan Reardon and Joe Reis.
Feller and Kluge are co-owners of Shamrock Heights Golf Course in New London.
Existing staff members Kirk Schneider, John Birr, golf pro Xavier Sandoval and course superintendent John “Rocky” Vanden Boogard will return.
Weather permitting, the course will open April 13 or before. The group rolled back fees to 2009 levels. The course is at W5055 Golf Course Road in Sherwood.
