25,000 WPS customers could face utility cutoff

Wisconsin Public Service Corp. said Tuesday that nearly 25,000 of its customers were four months or more behind on their utility bills and could face disconnection after April 15.

State law bars utilities from disconnecting residential service from Nov. 1 to April 15.

WPS spokesman Kerry Spees said the number of customers who are behind and the amount they owe is greater than last year, probably because of the colder winter.

The Green Bay-based utility disconnected about 17,000 customers in 2012.

Spees said customers who are behind should contact WPS immediately at (866) 215-5812.
