Benjamin Ontl, an eighth-grade student at East Junior High School, Wisconsin Rapids, will compete in National Geographic Bee state contest April 5 in Madison. This is the second consecutive year Benjamin has qualified for the state event and a chance to represent Wisconsin at the national competition May 20 to 22 in Washington, D.C.

Benjamin also is the winner of the eighth-grade spelling bee and participated in the regional contest Feb. 12 at Alexander Middle School, Nekoosa. He also has qualified as an award winner in the Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search, received awards for his artwork and has participated in many advanced learning opportunities, including writing workshop, Atomospheric, Satellite and Earth Sciences workshop, online classes and science projects.
