I was wrong.

I postulated when covering the Kids Food Event on March 2 that a healthy dessert, not something with raw vegetables, would win the Kids Good Food Award voted by kids and parents.

Wrong was I.

St. Norbert College Dining Service’s Turkey Shawarma, which included whole grain pita bread, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes and Greek yogurt, got the most votes. It was the only offering at the event that featured raw vegetables.

The award was presented Wednesday to the St. Norbert Dining staff.

The Kids Food Event was sponsored by Live54218, The Children’s Museum of Green Bay and UnitedHealthCare. The event sold out its 400 tickets in three days, with 342 kids and parents actually attending.

The event gave kids a chance to try tasty, healthy foods prepared by local chefs, and gave parents ideas about healthy foods and how to prepare them. Experts provided nutrition advice and other community service organizations were present.
