The winter has been long, and the snow can leave anytime it wishes. I am sure spring fever is starting to gnaw on the nerves of all of us. The best way to cure this infliction is to have a party. So be it!

The planning is done and the date has been set. The second annual Spencer Spring Fever Dance, sponsored by the Spencer Kids Group, kicks up its heels April 6 at the Olde Village Hall (Spencer Kids Group). The hall is located at 117 E. Clark St.

The doors open at 6 p.m. with the music running from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Tickets for the dance cost $25 per person. This small amount goes a long way during the evening. For one, it enters you in the prize drawing. Top prize is $1,500. It also covers the food, refreshments and the live music. How can one go wrong?

Other smaller raffles will also be on hand. Second prize is $1,000 with the third prize cashing in $500 for some lucky person. Fourth prize is $100. Fifth prize is a $100 gift certificate from M & S Sales. The next five winners each receive $50 with $25 going to the people holding the last five ticket numbers drawn.

The holders of the winning tickets do not have to be present to win. If you can't make it to the dance, you can still purchase a ticket, and help support the Spencer Kids Group.

The Spencer Kids Group has done amazing things for the youths of our community. By purchasing a ticket, you can help keep the programs continuing. It also provides a safe environment for the kids to go. Among a few of the programs offered are the after school homework clinic, called SHIP, the summer recreation program and outdoor movies. Students can go to SKG after school.

The music this year is provided by Shockwave, a group of high school students from Auburndale. Their playlist ranges from the '50s to the music of today. When you stop to think about it, here is a group of students from one community helping a group of students from a different community. Now that is a neat combination.

Tickets for the dance can be purchased at the Spencer Kids Group office and M & S Sales, 805 South LaSalle St. Tickets can only be purchased in advance. For more information, call Harley Meyer at 715-305-1968, Diane Maurer at 715-659-5851 or the SKG office at 715-659-4969.

Last year, more than $7,000 was raised to benefit the Spencer Kids Group. Let's make it another successful dance. Come on out of the winter blahs and take a splash into spring. You will be glad you did.
