Letter: I'm proud of my record on school board

Why I'm running for school board

EDITOR: First, I'd like to thank the public for the six years I've spent on the Wausau School Board. I have learned much during that time by attending meetings and training sessions sponsored by many different entities.

I moved back to the Wausau School District when my oldest child was 4 so he could attend school in the same city I did. I am currently the only board member who resides in the city of Wausau. My family is in its sixth generation in our district.

We have faced tremendous challenges in the form of reduced financial support from the state and an uncertainty in dealing with the status of labor relations. I am pleased that we have been able to maintain the high quality of education for the district's children while holding the line on the cost to the taxpayers.

Despite a large number of retirements, we have managed to retain our excellent teachers and to expand opportunities for our students. As a board, we have created three different charter schools within the school district. All of these charter schools are held to the same academic standards of our other schools in the district. We have worked to partner with Northcentral Technical College to expand the technical opportunities for our students.

I am running for re-election because I believe this wonderful school system that has given so much to me and my children should continue to strive for excellence. I believe that the more opportunities our children have to succeed, the more they will succeed.

Jane A. Rusch,

Wausau
