New all-star game, new bats for DCL

The 2013 Door County League baseball season will include an all-star game against the Shoreland League on July 25 in Casco.

The first all-star game between the two Northeastern Wisconsin amateur baseball leagues was announced at the DCL's spring meeting March 24.

The DCL is also switching to wood bats for the 2013 season, which is scheduled to open May 12.

Terry Miller was elected president and Bill Becker vice president of the eight-team league. The secretary/treasurer position remains open. Interested candidates should contact Jocko Rader at (920) 743-3522.

The by-laws and 2013 schedule will be finalized at the league's next meeting at 1 p.m. April 14 at the Cornerstone Pub in Baileys Harbor.

UWO's Wautier shines on spring trip

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior Courtney Wautier was chosen Women's Softball Pitcher of the Week in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for games played between March 18 and 24.

Wautier, a Southern Door High School graduate, compiled a 5-1 record with a 1.12 earned run average and had 38 strikeouts in 371/3 innings on the Titans' recent spring trip to Florida. She threw her first college no-hitter March 20 in a 4-0 win over State University of New York-Brockport.

Alumni basketball April 5 at So. Door

A Southern Door High School alumni basketball game is scheduled for Friday, April 5, in the Eagle Gymnasium.

All Southern Door graduates and their spouses are invited to play. Cost is $20 per player, with proceeds benefiting the school's baseball program.

At halftime, Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel will shoot free throws for pledges and matching donations from Alberts Plastering.

Registration and warm-ups start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the game at 7. For more information, contact organizer Dave Neinas at (920) 559-7217.
