To help put a stop to Illiteracy - an invisible problem affecting thousands of people in the greater Oshkosh community - the Winnebago County Literacy Council (WCLC) has launched its Open the Book on Literacy Campaign.

"The goal for the 2013 annual fundraising campaign is to help more than 200 adults improve their reading, writing and conversational skills," said WCLC Executive Director Terri Hansen. "Every dollar donated goes to support initiatives right here in the City of Oshkosh and throughout Winnebago County."

In the city, an estimated 7,600 adults cannot read above the first-great level, while 20,000 adults in Winnebago County cannot read past a fourth-grade level. The agency is not funded by the county.

Send your donations today to WCLC at 106 Washington Ave., Oshkosh WI 54901. For more information, call (920) 236-5185 or visit www.winlit.org.

WCLC, a United Way agency, is a nonprofit organization supported by grants, generous donations and the passion of volunteers.
