When voters overwhelmingly voted down the November referendum (6,600 no, 2,900 yes) the Pulaski School Board did not listen. They dropped the sports complex and added another year to technology funding. Not too much effort there!
The board does not have a money problem, they have a money management problem. Maybe they should spend some time in the classroom learning to live within their means. We need to demand more accountability. We balance our budgets, they need to balance theirs.
The last four years saw these officials add $1,800,000 to the tax roles with their tax-to-the-max philosophy. Plus, another $500,000 via the Community Service Fund, not to mention we are overcharged in excess of $500,000 for 4K. That's $2.8 million!
During a discussion of the technology aspect of the referendum Mr. Mel Lightner stated: "I understand that the brains of the operation has to be upgraded." Maybe that phrase should be used to describe what needs to be done to the Pulaski School Board.
Be sure to vote Tuesday! Vote no to 20 years of higher taxes. In an era of declining enrollments and higher truancy remember this: It's still OK to vote NO.
