Humane Society of Marathon County in running for free dog food

The Humane Society of Marathon County is one of five finalists in a national pet food contest, and animal shelter officials say the Wausau-area community they serve is to thank.

The Pedigree Feeding Project will supply two of the five final participating shelters with 100 percent of their core dog food needs for free for one year.

During the five-week nomination period, contest organizers received more than 14,000 nominations from hundreds of communities across the country. Others in the top five include the Detroit metro area, Jackson, Miss., Jacksonville, Fla. and Erie, Pa. ...
