Someone has been vandalizing others in the Bellevue area, creating worries about the safety of drivers in the area.

Since March 24, 18 signs in the area have been knocked over and two have been stolen, Brown County sheriff's officials said. Three signs were vandalized more than once.

Officials said that some of the thefts - such as the theft of a "stop" sign from Willow Road and Brown County QQ - could cause collisions. That could prompt authorities to seek charges against the person who stole the signs.

"Serious charges can be referred to the district attorney's office," Sheriff's Capt. Dave Konrath said in a statement released Monday.

Deputies believe a person driving a pickup truck or sport-utility vehicle with dark blue metallic paint is responsible in at least some of the vandalism. They ask that anyone with information about the incidents call deputies at (920) 448-4230, Green Bay Area Crime Stoppers at (920) 432-7867 or send a text message with "GBTIP" and the information to 274637. Persons contacting Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous, and can receive cash rewards.
