Fans of horror films hold the "Evil Dead" movies in high regard, and for good reason.

They're great.

Not in the traditional way movies are great. Not even in the traditional way horror movies are great, though there is gore aplenty. "The Evil Dead" (1981), "Evil Dead II" (1987) and "Army of Darkness" (1992) form a triumvirate of films that scare you but also make you laugh (though the proportion of one reaction to the other changes dramatically over the course of the series).
