Voter turnout beats expectations

Wood County's turnout in Tuesday's election was slightly higher than anticipated, though Wisconsin Rapids numbers disappointed the city's clerk.

During a presidential election, Wood County Clerk Cindy Cepress expects to see a turnout of about 80 percent of registered voters. With a 23 percent turnout Tuesday, Wood County came in just above estimates that 20 percent of its 45,869 registered voters would participate in the election.
