Fruth Athletic Field's iconic entrance and ticket stand on Ninth Street is being demolished this week to clear space for a new complex. Fruth Field is named for Fond du Lac High School basketball-coaching pioneer Ed Fruth, who guided the Cardinals to state championships in 1919, '22 and '24.

A $750,000 Fruth Athletic Field renovation project gained momentum this week with Monday's demolition of the old brick entrance and ticket stand.

School officials say fundraising efforts for the field, which has hosted countless graduations, football games and track meets, have reached the point where the building process can begin. The project will house two plazas, two concession stands, a retail area for Fondy Cardinal logowear and expanded restroom facilities.
