Town officials celebrated a "very, very important day" for the community Thursday when they accepted a $240,000 check that will help rebuild infrastructure around one of the town's biggest employers.

The $240,000 in state funds will be combined with $300,000 from the employer - the expanding New Chester Dairy - and used to rebuild and pave the dirt stretch of Fifth Avenue leading to the dairy.

"Without the grant, we would not be able to do the roads," said Barb Morgan, chairwoman of the town of about 900 residents. "There's no way we could raise a half million dollars." ...
