Waupun baseball opens season beating D2 state champ Portage

Conditions were finally good enough in Waupun for the Warriors baseball team to have its season-opener Saturday, and they did it in grand fashion with a 10-3 win over defending Division 2 state champion Portage.

Leading 2-1, Waupun scored four runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to blow the game open. It recorded eight hits and didn't have an error.

"It was great to get outside finally," Warriors assistant coach Derrick Standke said. "We had some good at-bats and it was just a good team effort. They made some mistakes and we capitalized." ...
