ROSENDALE - The body of a 52-year-old Rosendale man was recovered from a house Friday evening in Rosendale.

Officials responded to a residence at 200 N. Main St. in the village at about 3:20 p.m. Friday for a welfare check, according to a press release from Rick Olig, captain of operations for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office.

Information was received about possible smoke in the house, as well as a person. Deputies and firefighters evacuated the area around the house and set up a tactical perimeter around the residence.

Highway 26 was closed, and traffic was detoured.

The house suffered significant fire damage.

The incident is being investigated by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Assisting at the scene were Rosendale Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Rosendale Fire Department, Eldorado Fire Department, Ripon Rural Fire Department, Lamartine Fire Department, Ripon EMS and Rosendale First Responders.
