The shutdown of air-traffic control towers at Wittman Regional Airport and 148 other airports across the United States has been delayed until June 15.

Wittman Director Peter Moll said the FAA notified him Friday that it would delay plans to cut funding that pays for contracted tower staff at smaller airports for two months. The FAA had planned to begin cutting funding for air traffic control staff next week as part of its budget cuts.

Winnebago County's Aviation Committee cancelled a special meeting scheduled for Monday morning to discuss whether to continue paying for air traffic controllers itself. Moll said it's likely the issue will be taken up at the committee's regular, monthly meeting scheduled for May 1.
