Sales tax holiday proposed by Madison legislators

Back-to-school shopping in August might be a little cheaper if a proposal creating a tax holiday under identical bills introduced by two Republican legislators last month becomes law.

The bills would create two, two-day tax holidays, one during the first weekend in August that would apply to school supplies and personal computers, and one the first weekend in November for the purchase of Energy Star-rated appliances and building materials.
