A Rosendale man who died Friday after dousing his home with gasoline and setting it on fire wasn't trying to harm anyone but himself, investigators have determined.

Joseph M. Shafer, 54, died inside his home at 200 N. Main St. The cause of death was not released Monday by the Fond du Lac County medical examiner's office.

Officers responding to the home about 3:15 p.m. April 5 to check on Shafer's welfare encountered a smoke-filled residence, an odor of gasoline and empty gasoline cans outside the home. ...
