Marathon County officials say they are working to create a safer environment for correctional officers and inmates at the site of a vicious attack that left one woman critically wounded.

Jail administrator Bob Dickman said tensions are high at the jail following the attack, and officers are struggling to find a sense of normalcy as they await word of their coworker's condition. Officer Julie Christensen, 36, was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with what authorities describe as "significant head injuries" after she was attacked by Fredrick Morris, 20, of Wausau, police said. ...
