Oshkosh Corp. to lay off 900 in defense division

A 30 percent decline in production demand forced Oshkosh Corp. to cut 900 employees this summer, its second layoff of 2013.

The company announced it will cut 700 production workers beginning June 14 and cut 200 office workers by the end of July as U.S. Department of Defense spending returns to peacetime levels and truck orders from foreign governments have not panned out.

Once the layoff is completed, Oshkosh Corp. will have reduced its local workforce by 1,315 positions through a combination of layoffs, early buyouts and not filling some office positions as they open up in 2013. ...
