Downtown businesses will get facelifts

Since the city's downtown facade improvement program began in 2009, about 25 property owners have utilized $250,000 to make more than $1 million in improvements to their properties along Central Avenue.

Another $50,000 in matching grants will help finance renovations to the exteriors of five additional properties this spring or summer, said Jason Angell, director of the city's economic development department. The amount of money remaining in the fund for 50/50 matching exterior renovation projects is about $31,000, he said.
