April 9, 1937 - College has frosh ruling: St. Norbert college automatically adopts the three-year rule in athletics with the announcement of its accreditation as a four-year college by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The rule will not affect the present athletes at the college but will apply to all freshmen entering next fall.
In the past St. Norbert has depended to a large extent on freshmen athletes. Eleven football letters were awarded freshmen players last fall and four of the five starting players in most of the Knights' basketball games were first-year men. The college has not adopted the three-year rule before because it has been meeting a class of athletic opposition which in turn had no freshmen eligibility rule.
With 20 returning lettermen the college football team should not feel the rule next fall. Ten of the group will be seniors, which will greatly weaken the squad in 1938.
