Men's basketball: Muhammad leaving Phoenix because of family concerns

The player who provided perhaps the biggest highlight of last season is leaving the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball team.

The Phoenix is losing junior guard Sultan Muhammad, who hit the winning 3-pointer at the buzzer that beat Illinois-Chicago in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament last month.

According to coach Brian Wardle, the 6-foot-1 native of Grand Rapids, Mich., wants to be closer to home because of an undisclosed family situation. Wardle said Muhammad has been released from his scholarship and is free to transfer. Muhammad played just one ...
