Dean J. Koenig, 42, of Valders, was sentenced Monday to three years in prison, followed by seven years of extended supervision, in the drunken driving death of Kiel bicyclist Wayne Scharenbroch on April 3, 2010.

The courtroom was packed for a case that, as Manitowoc County Circuit Judge Gary Bendix put it, "galvanized" both sides.

Koenig, who was found guilty of felony homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle on Dec. 19, was allowed time to apologize to the family at the sentencing hearing. ...
