County looks to renegotiate Humane Society contract

Marathon County officials hope to negotiate a new deal with the Humane Society of Marathon County to get the best deal for taxpayers who are paying $132,000 annually to impound stray dogs and cats at the shelter.

The county's Finance and Property Committee recommended Tuesday that the county terminate its contract with the Humane Society later this year so the county can negotiate a new one. The move, which still needs to be approved by the County Board later this month, has the support of Humane Society of Marathon County President Linda Berna-Karger.
