Barnie Haen column: New one-day tourney attracts bowlers of all averages

For many years, Apple Valley Lanes ran a one day tournament, usually in the spring, which drew some of the top bowlers from around Northeastern Wisconsin to Sturgeon Bay.

But over time, participation waned as the number of similar events statewide dwindled. Few local bowlers competed, feeling that they had little chance against high rollers from Green Bay, Manitowoc and other larger cities. Eventually, AVL pulled the plug to concentrate on its Nine Pin No Tap tournament.
