Van Hollen: Brown County Board can hire own lawyer

An opinion issued Tuesday could clear up an old issue for the Brown County Board.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said the board has the right to hire a private attorney for civil matters and in cases involving the county Human Resources Department. Lawmakers sought an opinion from Van Hollen in April 2012 after a months-long debate divided county leaders.
