Dear Sen. Rob Cowles: I know how honest and decent you have always been when you were present at nursing meetings. I know you care about the care of all Wisconsinites.
I am honestly alarmed at Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to create taxpayer-supported voucher schools. Voucher schools will have no rules or regulations, in contrast to our public schools' very detailed rules and regulations. That will be a considerable threat to all the schools, because they will all be thrown into the same basket of little or no rules or regulations. How can this be fair to our children?
The schools are our future. The kids must learn to run our state, to teach other kids, to add, subtract, spell, think, reason, etc. How will this happen when there will be no rules or regulations that ensure the children are taught to think, to calculate, to understand complex issues that are vital to our success as a state and nation.
I want Wisconsin to be the best in all things. How can that happen if there are students who are poorly taught in schools without rules and regulations for students, teachers, school board, etc.?
