County mulls adding courthouse security

Proposal floated to add 8 part-time deputies

Marathon County wants to beef up its courthouse security.

Members of the Marathon County Courthouse Security Task Force will vote in May on whether to add up to eight part-time deputies to improve courthouse security. The county currently has two full-time deputies assigned to the courthouse.

The deputies, who would be employed by the Marathon County Sheriff's Department, would each work a maximum of 1,200 hours per year and would not be entitled to health insurance or other benefits. The county is expected to spend about $65,000 a year to fund the program, plus additional unspecified ...
