State unveils new emphasis on apprenticeship program (with video)

Initiative seeks more workers trained in trades

The state Department of Workforce Development on Wednesday announced a new initiative to promote its apprenticeship program, which helps train 10,000 workers at more than 2,000 companies annually.

DWD Secretary Reggie Newson announced the initiative at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, which has more than 100 students in apprenticeship programs at companies throughout central Wisconsin. Twenty people graduated from apprenticeship programs in the past year.
