WIAA executive director Dave Anderson glanced out the window Thursday and saw the same thing everybody else did: gray skies spitting rain, sleet, and yes, snow.

It is mid-April, and actual competition for high school softball, baseball, girls soccer, boys tennis and boys golf seasons in central Wisconsin are at a virtual standstill.

Only a select few schools have been able to get outside, having ventured south to play games. Literally, indoor track and field is the only game in town. ...
