Members of a grassroots group dedicated to boosting pedestrian safety in Wisconsin Rapids hope to make several changes to West Grand Avenue by the end of the year.

The Pedestrian Safety Engineering Subcommittee met Wednesday to discuss six projects, many of which city leaders would like to complete by the time school starts in the fall.

There have been several pedestrian and bicycle rider fatalities in the city in recent years. An 8-year-old boy was killed while crossing West Grand Avenue about a year and a half ago, and more recently, a 41-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a sport ...
