Many people regard The Ridges Sanctuary as a leader in sustainability. We recently received our Wisconsin Travel Green certification, and the positive publicity it generated has set me on a mission: exploring the reality of "green" culture.

There is a prevailing belief that because things are green, they are good. But as Kermit the Frog once pointed out, "It's not easy being green." For example, land protection or preservation involves more than buying up green space and restricting development. Management planning, vegetation suppression, trial and error, community support, ...
