Mahoney to retire from WFRV in May

After more than 30 years at WFRV-TV, Channel 5, chief meteorologist Tom Mahoney is retiring.

His last day will be May 31.

A native of Joliet, Ill., Mahoney started his career in 1972 and became chief meteorologist at WFRV in 1982. He was an earth science teacher at a high school in suburban Chicago before making the move to broadcasting.

Mahoney announced his retirement on the air this week.
