I would like to respond to two letters to the editor on voucher expansion.
Enrique Mora claims that "free thinking" public school teachings are best for our children. I disagree. I don't believe the government should decide the moral curriculum being indoctrinated in to our children's minds. I think the parents should decide what school teachings are closest to their families' beliefs. I don't believe money should be the reason parents can't choose a school they would like their child to attend. Why shouldn't they be able to use their allotted tax money toward the school of their choice? Competition may be best for everyone.
As for Ruth Feldhaus, she says these voucher schools will have no regulations. These schools will be under the Department of Public Instruction. They will be subject to the same standardized tests, have the same standards for hours of instruction as the public schools and require all teachers to have a bachelor's degree. The fact is, the learning has proven to be superior than that of public schools. That is one of the main reasons for parents choosing them.
