The Kewaunee County Board is expected to vote April 23 on a proposal that could extend the life of the county landfill and delay for several years a decision on whether to close the facility.

Because of the millions of dollars involved, the Highway and Solid Waste Committee recommended last fall that the county not apply for the necessary permits to start Phase III of the sprawling landfill but instead make plans for closure.

The full board postponed a decision for 60 days twice, in December and in February, to give communities and businesses more time to respond. ...
