The 2010 Census estimates 220 people call the tiny hamlet of Eureka home.

In the last year, Mary Lee and three dozen volunteers from Eureka United Methodist Church have served 10 times that many free meals to Eureka-area residents out of a simple desire to help make their community a better place.

Martha's Meal offers anyone, needy or not, the opportunity to sit down for soup, sandwiches, salads and sides, casseroles and dessert every Wednesday evening in the church's common room. Lee said people told her the meal would likely draw no more than 10 or 12 people each week. The first week, 21 people ...
