Ourlads' mock Packers picks

Apr. 16, 2013

The Ourlads' scouting service doesnít get the national publicity that ESPN and SI.com can give their draft experts, but itís well respected in scouting circles.

We havenít looked at Ourlads' mock drafts in this blog yet, so here are the Packersí first-round picks from two mocks this week on Ourlads.com.

The first, with no author named but presumably done by Ourlads' GM and national scout Dan Shonka, has the Packers selecting Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant at No. 26 overall (link: http://tinyurl.com/butznma). Some scouts think Trufant might be the best pure cover man in this draft, though whether he is so good that the Packers would bypass greater needs elsewhere is another matter.

ďFour-year starter,Ē Shonka wrote. ďComes from a long line of defensive backs. A good athlete who was regularly matched up on the opponentís best receiver. Good football instincts. Takes a direct line to the ball with no false steps. Good short area quickness. Quick footed and aggressive. Can play press.Ē

Ourlads' scout Chris Steuberís mock draft has the Packers selecting LSU safety Eric Reid at No. 26. Steuberís mock (link: http://tinyurl.com/cfsn8fa) included no explanation or player description, but finding a potential starter at safety opposite Morgan Burnett is one of the Packersí biggest offseason needs. Reid could be the second safety off the board; the top safety prospect generally is considered to be Texas' Kenny Vaccaro.
